2022 Bed Race Relay

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17

FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

DURING

SHERMAN ARTS FEST

Families with children that are living on a limited income and facing or experiencing homelessness encounter challenges because

  • It’s hard to balance employment and childcare responsibilities during difficult times
  • It’s hard to find an affordable home
  • There are so many hoops to go through to get services
  • Putting money into the bank to achieve greater financial stability can be difficult

Your participation in the relay as a sponsor or team participant will provide resources so Family Promise of Grayson County can continue to help families navigate these challenges and ensure they have the skills and resources to build a better future for their children in a stable home.

What is a Bed Race Relay?

Teams of 5 participants  race to "make a bed" in a relay format by placing a fitted sheet, a top sheet, a comforter, a pillow, and a teddy bear on one of Family Promise's beds. Sounds easy, right? The catch is that each team member will need to carry the bag of bedding and navigate a series of obstacles to get from the starting line to the bed. The first four team members will then sweep the bag of bedding back to the starting line. These obstacles are challenging but doable for participants of all ages. To encourage team fundraising for Family Promise of Grayson County, 5 seconds will be deducted from the final race time for every $100 a team raises prior to relay. A grand prize will be awarded to the team with the lowest adjusted race time.

Register a Team for the Relay

We hope you will consider forming a team to race in the 2022 Bed Race Relay. The deadline to register a team is September 2, 2022. Each team consists of 5 members and the team should have a captain that will serve as the contact  person for the team. There is a $50 registration fee for each team. Races will be held between 10 AM and 2 PM. After the sign-up deadline, the team captain will be contacted by Family Promise for their specific race time. Prizes will be awarded to heat winners and a grand prize will be awarded to the team with the fastest adjusted race time. The more money your team raises, the more time will be deducted from your race time. All relay racers will receive an event t-shirt.
