Our Programs

Family HOPE (Housing Opportunities to Prevent Eviction)

Family Promise offers Prevention and Diversion through rental and utility assistance to prevent families from experiencing homelessness. The goal is to intervene early and provide the necessary support to keep families in their homes and out of crisis.

Rotation Shelter Program

Families experiencing homelessness are hosted in local Host Congregations for a week or two at a time. This often is
referred to as the “Rotation Program”, as guests rotate from one congregation to the next.

Host Congregations provide lodging, meals, and hospitality about once a quarter. Support Congregations (that may not have the space to provide shelter for families) assist by providing meals or volunteers at the Host Congregations. Host and Support Congregations often provide financial support for our programs. We always are looking for more congregations that want to help end child homelessness!

Transitional Living

Tabitha and Lydia houses are transitional living homes located in Knollwood.  These manufactured homes were generously donated by Clayton Homes. They are for families that have graduated from the Rotation Program and need a little more time to meet their financial goals (e.g. saving for a car or down payment). Families pay for their utilities and a program fee while living there.

Day Center

The Day Center provides a homelike setting for guests during the day, when they are not at work, school, or daycare.  The Family Promise offices are located here, and guests work with the Resource Advocates to find jobs and housing. The Day Center is located in Hope on Houston at 901 E. Houston St. in Sherman. It has showers, a washer & dryer, kitchen, computer room, and a play area for young children.

Transportation

Family Promise assists Rotation guests with transportation to and from the Host Congregations, Day Center, work, interviews, school, housing searches, appointments and social service agencies. Guests may drive their own vehicles. Family Promise cars are available for guests who have a valid driver's license.

Classes

Family Promise provides various classes for guests throughout the year. These classes include case management, financial literacy, health, tool time, and home repair. The Vital Steps program helps families procure birth certificates, driver's licenses, and identification cards.
